The Degenerate Digest v.151

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. What we have been building toward all season. The college football playoff. There’s been a lot of discourse about this year's bracket. With JMU and Tulane gaining seats to the dance, and teams like Notre Dame and Texas being on the outside looking in. My take is this. Anyone who truly loves the sport of college football, not football, college football, is totally welcoming of programs outside major conferences who deserve a shot at competing. If you’re on the side of ‘JMU is gonna get boatraced and for that fact alone they shouldn’t be in this over a team that can actually compete’ just doesn’t love college football. Simple as that. You might love football, but you don’t love college football. If Texas and Notre Dame want to throw a hissy fit about being left out over the likes of a Tulane or a JMU, maybe they should have won more football games. Or maybe the NCAA will make this a 16 team playoff with more structured guidelines about how teams get in from various conferences and you won’t have to cry more in the future. Overall, I just want people to take the dump out of their pants, put it in a respectable place in society such as a modern toilet, and flush that shit down the drian because the Dukes and the Green Wave both deserve a shot and your crybaby country club antics will likely be resolved soon anyway because money always makes the rules and just shut the fuck up, okay?

Now that that’s over, let’s have some fun.

(9) Alabama @ (8) Oklahoma: Oklahoma ML

I would love to see my guy John Mateer ball out one more time before this season ends. He didn’t have anything flashy going on in the first matchup between these two squads a month ago. I want to see him have some success at home in Norman against this defense which can be vulnerable. The main thing here though is the Sooner defense. It’s by far the best aspect of this matchup. They were able to pressure the absolute fuck out of Ty Simpson in November, and I expect that to continue this evening seeing the Tide cannot run the ball in really any capacity.

The other aspect to this game is the coaching carousel. While it might be of some surprise, and PR teams are burning the midnight oil trying to deflect any rumors out there, rumors start somewhere. Kalen DeBoer has found himself smack dab in the center of the Michigan candidacy. Do I think it’s legit? No. But does this cause further distraction and pressure on a guy that hasn’t really had the best resume with a program and fanbase that basically expects perfection? Yes.

At the end of the day, this is a coinflip game. It truly could go either way and nothing would surprise me. Apologies to either my dog or my wallet for this one, but Boomer Sooner.

Final Score: Oklahoma 24, Alabama 20

(10) Miami @ (7) Texas A&M: Miami +3

Looking back on the Aggies season, it kind of is suspect. Most of their wins are against bottom of the barrel SEC teams. The only win of note I think I can look at and be truly impressed was Notre Dame in Southbend by 1 point. Now is Miami any less suspect? No. Their best win is also Notre Dame in friggin August. However, Miami has a QB who has been in these types of games before, even though he looks like Sid from Ice Age. They also have a defense that is for real. Mario Cristobal wants this, badly. I’ll take whatever points Vegas is giving me for an early game at Kyle Field.

Final Score: Miami 27, Texas A&M 24

(11) Tulane @ (6) Ole Miss: 1H Total Under 30.5

The only thing I can think about for this matchup is Lane Kiffin calling up Jon Sumrall and giving away everything there is to give about this Ole Miss team so the Green Wave can at least keep it close enough to make Lane Kiffin look like the best of the best. He is 100% that kinda guy. Don’t think so? You’re a fool. He is 100% that kinda guy.

I don’t think this game will be in much question throughout, but I do think the Rebel offense struggles early.

Final Score: Ole Miss 34, Tulane 19

(12) James Madison @ (5) Oregon: Oregon -20.5

I hate this pick. Hate it. I want nothing to do with Oregon in this spot. I want everything to do with JMU in this spot. But I can’t deny the facts. JMU hasn’t played anyone remotely close to Oregon’s defense. I could legit see this being 21-0. Because I hate this pick so much, I’m just going to say that’s the final score and move on.

Final Score: Oregon 21, JMU 0

Running Record: (369-307-7)
