I got some heat last week from a small amount of readers who were annoyed I didn’t put the Georgia/Auburn game in the Digest, especially with my hopes for Auburn this season. Well guess what, I don’t answer to anyone – I give you the answers. If I don’t make a pick, I don’t make it for a reason. Did I think Georgia was going to win that game? Yes. Did I still put money on Auburn +7.5 cause I’m a man of faith? Yes. If I had given Georgia – you would have bitched pregame. If I had given Auburn – you would have bitched postgame. Guess what, you can’t bitch because I give the answers, and that wasn’t one of them. You need me to spell them out for you week in and week out because you can’t find the answers yourselves. You are the lowly Scotsman, scared to fight the Brits. I am Braveheart, fighting for YOUR freedom. Don’t be scared today. Stand with me against the nerds over there in Vegas… they may take our money, but they will never take OUR FREEDOM!
(4) Florida @ (21) Texas A&M: Florida -5
A&M had a decent first quarter against the Crimson Tide last week. They put up more of a fight then I thought they would at the start. They will have success today against the Gators hot-and-cold defense. With that said, I just don’t see them winning this one outright. Kyle Trask continues to improve and adapt, and he will do that yet again today. And the people around him including Kyle Pitts and freshman Trent Whittemore are doing the same. Gators by a touchdown on the road.
Final Score: Florida 34, Texas A&M 28
Missouri @ (17) LSU: LSU -14
LSU had a rough start to the season, but that was expected losing an overwhelmingly large portion of their starters from their national championship team last season. Missouri on the other hand, stinks out loud - not having breached 20 points in one game yet. I don’t see LSU having much issue today after blowing the doors off Vanderbilt last weekend. I think they really want to let the band play neck today, even on the road.
Final Score: LSU 45, Missouri 17
(14) Tennessee @ (3) Georgia: Georgia -12.5
I mean, did you see what the Bulldogs did last weekend? I can’t give all the credit in the world to their defense, because Bo Nix simply looked like absolute dog poo, but they looked good enough for me to think they’ll be a brick wall against most SEC teams this season. This is also the week where Tennessee usually comes back down to earth. I give the Volunteers credit for pulling off wins against South Carolina and Missouri… scratch that, I give the Volunteers credit for pulling off a win against South Carolina. But starting off 2-0, coming into a game against the SEC’s (current) best… yea – no. If the Bulldogs come down and score on their first drive, look out Tennessee fans, it might be a tough one to watch.
Final Score: Georgia 41, Tennessee 21
(7) Miami @ (1) Clemson: Under 60.5
In what is easily the best game of the day, we’re going thick sack. The question here is in the first drives. You’ll know if this pick is going to hit pretty quickly. I just don’t see a world where this is a shootout. Either Miami will keep it close for a period of time, or Clemson will win convincingly in a blowout while still staying in the under. With that said, a lot of people think Miami has a shot in this game. I don’t think the Canes are up to this kind of task this early in the season just yet, but if they can get pressure on Trevor Lawrence, they just might be able to stay within the limits for at least the first half. Expect a back and forth game to start, with some trickery from Manny Diaz, but Clemson will pull away by a margin eventually. If Miami covers the 15.5 Vegas is giving them, be on the lookout for some surfing in the future.
Final Score: Clemson 37, Miami 21
(2) Alabama @ Ole Miss: Over 68.5
We’ve seen in the past couple of weeks that the Crimson Tide defense is not the 4-quarter bone crusher is once was. It is a system that has some cracks, and tends to get off to a slow start. And guess what? They’re entering Lane Kiffins house. Don’t you think for a second this won’t look like a shootout early. Obviously, I expect Saban to be just as prepared, and have the talent in front of him to execute a double-digit victory. But don’t be surprised if the Rebels make some noise while their fans are still riding the buzz from their pregame hotty toddy’s.
Final Score: Alabama 53, Ole Miss 24
Running Record: (58-40-2)
