The Degenerate Digest v.161

Not a bad showing from Octotals. Going 3-2 in a total’s only slate is pretty impressive if I do say so myself. You know damn well you could never call a totals only slate like that off sheer whim cause you were looking for a theme for your college football gambling blog. Don’t sweat it, not everyone can be like Joey Digest.

What a slate we have before us for Week Six. Chalk full of some tremendous conference play, ranked matchups, hurricanes, and an insane amount of rat lines.

Here’s the thing about rat lines this time of year. It's spooky season. A lot of sharps, content creators, VIP Programs, are all just as vulnerable to the microscope of one Las Vegas, Nevada. What I mean by that is, Vegas can easily throw some bait out there for the high rollers and eat a public side from time to time. Cheese is cheese. At the end of the day, everybody needs to eat.

My job this week is simple. Don’t fall for the cheese. Bob and weave. Figure it the fuck out. Read between the lines.

Arizona @ West Virginia: Over 60.5

Arizona’s defense has been solid for the most part, but they did also give up 24 on the road to Wazzou a few weeks ago. Now traveling cross-country to face an offense that’s put up an average of 37.4 PPG? Especially with the motivation Rich Rod & the Mountaineers must have after losing that shootout in Jack Trice last week? This line opened at 58.5, with 59% of the bets and 52% of the money on the under and we’re up to 61/61.5 on some books (#KnowYourBooks).

Final Score: West Virginia 34, Arizona 30

(21) UCLA @ (13) Oregon: Oregon -10.5

Oregon fans must be ecstatic that I am once again putting my faith in their dumb fucking football team. So far, the Oregon season has gone about as Oregon as possible. Have an iffy opener but come away with a win. Lose to a team you shouldn’t. And then be lights out from there until they meet Ohio State, Georgia, or Alabama in the semi-finals. With that said, it will be just as lights out as it was for Dante Moore against USC on the Ducks season if they don’t just win this game - but win it convincingly. Gotta stack up the meaningful ones now that you have Patrick Mahomes 2.0 in shotgun, Daniel!

Final Score: Oregon 35, UCLA 21

Virginia Tech @ Cal: Virginia Tech -9.5

This is just a ‘Last Chance to Bet on James Franklin in Year One at Virginia Tech’ game. Simple as that. The Hokies were embarrassed enough at home in Blacksburg last week against Pitt. The best thing for them is to get out of town for a bit. Maybe head to Berkley and lay the smackdown against JKS and one of the most underwhelming preseason hyped teams in the power conferences. Kitchen sink game for Franklin. Otherwise, he’s the same old bum tuggin’ his pud after a loss in California.

Final Score: Virginia Tech 45, Cal 17

(19) USC @ Penn State: Penn State ML

I realize that I did a whole intro about rat lines, but then haven’t really broken down what’s what with the rats-pect of why it’s a rat. Well here’s one. Why the fuck is Penn State favored to literally anyone in the Big Ten other than maybe Maryland and Rutgers? Even those games would be toss ups the way the Nittany Lions are playing. Sure, it’s a white out in Happy Valley. Sure, Lincoln Riley will probably be removed from his post at USC after this season with the way this team looks after 5 years. But for Penn State to be favored? Ratty Daddy.

Final Score: Penn State Something, USC Something Less

Minnesota @ Purdue: Purdue +2.5

a rat peers its pink nose in the direction of an oddly plastic-looking slice of aged cheddar, strategically placed on what appears to be a thin layer of neon-green jello

Minnesota just beat Michigan. Minnesota just beat Washington on the road who is favored at the time of writing against ranked Iowa.

(EDITORS NOTE: IF YOU BET WASHINGTON LAST NIGHT YOU ARE EXACTLY WHO IM TALKING ABOUT IN THIS BLOG)

Minnesota has PJ Fleck. Minnesota is the bait. We’re not taking the bait.

Final Score: Purdue 28, Minnesota 27

No #PremiumMemberTickleTeaser this week. But I do have something extra for the people...

Grab shell dude.

(1) Texas @ Oklahoma: Alt Line Parlay, Texas -2.5 & Under 48.5

The Red River Shootout. The bit of me calling it that, and then saying you can’t call it that anymore is pretty old, but I don’t give a fuuuuuuuuuck. Did you know you can’t call it that anymore? Psh. I can! Just watch em’ try and stop me.

I’m not sold on Texas yet, especially on the offensive side of the ball. And in a rivalry game, you kinda have to throw the record books out the window… even if those record books have everything we’ve seen from the Sooner’s thus far this season.

I expect a new term to come out of the Cotton Bowl on Saturday evening, the Red River Rock Fight. Expect a defensive bout, and maybe a last minute drive from Arch again to build this highlight reel season even if it’s off of 2 quarters (4th against OSU at home in 120 degree weather, 4th against the Bummer - sorry - Boomer Sooner based on this prediction).

Final Score: Texas 27, Oklahoma 20

Stanford @ (3) Notre Dame: Stanford Team Total O6.5

Ball State Week One. Electric. Now this isn’t as electric I guess, since we need a TD & Extra Point. But still electric. Especially if this game goes as expected. The Irish scoring at will. Stanford will have plenty of chances. So what if it takes Rudy to get called in after halftime to allow this bet to hit?

Final Score: Notre Dame 42, Stanford 7

(2) Georgia @ (6) Alabama: Alt Line Parlay, Alabama +4.5 & Over 41.5

Apparently this game was being considered for a move to Mercedes-Benz Stadium due to Hurricane Isaias. I can just picture some big shot Crimson Tide booster calling league offices saying some to the effect of ‘Hurricane Isaias? Isayisayisayas if you don’t rise up to meet the Tide, you gon' get sucked up in all sorts of mud’ and then naturally, the league offices called the government and asked them to speed the hurricane up so it would be clear by kickoff.

Do I trust true freshmen in spots like this? Never. But I really think Keelon Russell is already at the precipice of being the most electric player in the sport. What he’s able to do has finally allowed Bama to find a more consistent run game as well. Just really liking everything I’m seeing out of the Tide. Georgia is still Georgia, so this game really is so unpredictable. I’m just hoping buying a few points on either side of these lines will help in the event Vegas has it nailed down to a science - which they usually do.

Final Score: Alabama 28, Georgia 26

Running Record: (394-331-7)
